Notes

Years ago Mike Thompson sent me a bunch of shows that I could share with people. One of the shows was a show by an artist with whom I was unfamiliar till that time: Jon Dee Graham was his name. I listened and I was sold.
Since then I have been following him and I was lucky enough to have seen him a couple of times.

Jon Dee Graham is a household name in Texas, be it as a band member of the True Believers or as a solo artist. In the past he has been in Alejandro Escovedo's band and he was part of the Resentments. His music goes from rockingly loud to slow ballads.

I love his line: it's not a wrong note, but an interesting choice.

Jon Dee Graham has always been taper friendly, but we have Mike Thompson to thank for the fact that Jon Dee Graham's music can now be shared here. Mike is also responsible for Mike June's appearence here as well as the True Believers and Alejandro Escovedo.

Mike, thank you for all you have done for the taping community and the promotion of the artists that you work for.
I am very honoured that I was chosen to upload the very first show here. And a great it is, recorded by taper extraordinaire Joshua Cain.

Let's hope many shows will follow.

Subject: Therapy for the real world.
Catharsis - the process of releasing, and thereby providing relief from, strong or repressed emotions.

I have had Jon Dee's words and voice in my head for over a quarter of a century. They have been with me through the thick and thin of life and carried me through. When humans experience fear and other shocks to the emotional psyche, the defense mechanism most commonly sought is a favorite hymn or bible verse. For others it may be Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, or Townes Van Zandt- any which would be great choices, among so many others. For me, it is the words of Jon Dee. They provide the calm in the storm to get through the most challenging of times. It can be on the crest of the hard-rocking Fender wave he rides so well or in a magical acoustic performance like the one captured here. This set is a gift to all lovers of music, even if they don't know it yet. Therapy for the real world, indeed.

Thanks so very much for posting this performance. Absolutely wonderful.
